03/04/2013 - Senior Team Match Report - 2nd April

Rayners Lane 2-2 Chalfont Wasps

Tuesday 2nd April

The unseasonably cold weather needed an enthralling match to warm the spectators and this encounter did not disappoint. Rayners Lane are pushing for a top of the table finish and thus offered a good test for the improving Wasps side who are now effectively looking for a top half finish and to build for next season.

The home side started confidently pinging the ball around at speed, sometimes too quickly for their own good. Wasps picked up the pace quickly however and it was Wasps’ Connor Cumber who had the first effort on goal whilst on the run after 4 minutes. Frank Turner in the Wasps goal made a number of good stops throughout the evening when Rayners applied some pressure but Wasps created the better of the chances in the first half. Fred Tripp picked up a cross from Connor and went just wide of the upright after 12 minutes and Tom Hogan was unlucky not to force home a header from a corner after 14 minutes. Turner made a great one on one stop to deny Rayners then Wasps grabbed the lead moments later whilst on a break forward. Tripp took on the back four and his powerful run ended with an equally strong shot across the keeper into the far corner, 1-0 Wasps, 25 minutes. Tom Seddon had his work cut out on the flank, having to mark a lively Rayners winger, but he was also an attacking force. Seddon crossed to Tripp who saw his shot pushed wide and Wasps nearly got a second from the resulting corner from Captain Ryan Sweales looping half volley, 34 minutes. Wasps withstood Rayners attacks well when they came then they took a two goal lead in the 44th minute. Matt Seedel collected the ball, beat the surrounding defenders with some neat footwork and slotted home confidently, 2-0 Wasps come the interval.

Wasps continued to frustrate Rayners. Connor Cumber spurned a good chance to put the match beyond doubt three minutes in. Rayners continued to work hard to get something from the match and got their first from a free kick, Ryan Upton heading home from close range. Upton then bagged his brace with 20 minutes remaining to make for a interesting final period. Alfie Cumber and Chris Shennan joined the fray for the Stingers to add fresh legs. Turner made another fine stop in the dying seconds and the match concluded 2-2, an appropriate reflection of the night’s entertainment.

01/04/2013 - Senior Team Match Report - 30th March

Chalfont Wasps 3-2 Milton United

Saturday 30th March

What this match lacked in quality was countered by a thrilling second half as the match swung in the favour of both sides. The chilly snow flurried afternoon threatened once again to thwart matters, the home game earlier in the season was abandoned and the away fixture cancelled last week. Wasps now travel to Milton for the final re-arranged match of the season.

Wasps started much the brighter, with Connor Cumber’s unconventional style on the left flank providing much of the threat. Cumber got Wasps first with an excellent long range effort. After driving down the line for the umpteenth time, Cumber powered a looping shot from the angle from 32 yards which evaded the visiting keeper; 1-0 Wasps after 5 minutes. Wasps were unlucky not to add to their tally during the next 10 minutes. The match then swung in Milton’s favour, they got control of mid-field and put Wasps on the back foot. During this spell Wasps failed to clear a free kick and Steve Andrews netted the first of his brace from close range; 1-1 17 mins. Milton then hit the post, although Wasps keeper Frank Turner looked to have it covered, and moments later Turner then smothered a long range effort to keep the scores level. However, a mix up between the usually very reliable Turner and Steve Nott-Macaire then allowed Andrews to bag an easy second; 1-2 on the half hour mark. Wasps showed some signs of the second half revival in the last few minutes and Mark Stack collected a Cumber cross and neatly slotted home from the angle, sadly the effort was adjudged off side and Wasps trailed at the interval. Turner tipped a looping effort over just before half time.

Wasps were more competitive in the second period and earned the right to have the lion's share of events. Cumber shot over after a bad ‘bobble’, Fred Tripp was inches short of converting a Tom Seddon cross and Cumber headed firmly at the keeper before they drew level and then quickly took the lead. Chris Shennan rose highest from a Cumber corner to head home a firmly to level matters after 82 minutes. From the restart Wasps moved the ball forward well and Tripp finished off the move to give Wasps the winning margin after 83 minutes. Milton applied some pressure during the final few minutes but Wasps stood firm to bag all three points.

21/03/2013 - Wasps U13's Make It Two Cup Finals

The Treble Is On - Wasps Make it Through To Two Cup Finals

Chalfont Wasps 3 - Bucks CC 2

Wasps U13's turned a good season into a great one with a great victory over Division 1 leaders Bucks CC.

One a wet Sunday morning the boys were up for it right from the first whistle matching Bucks CC all over the pitch. Wasps were unlucky not to go in 1-0 up after a great strike from Matthew Jones hit the post, in what was an evenly contested first half. After a rallying team talk we started quickly, and went 1-0 up within a minute of the re-start after a great run from William Simmonds resulted in an own goal.

With our tails up the Wasps started to dominate the game and after 50 minutes, William Simmonds put us 2-0 up after a great solo effort. Now starting to believe we could beat the league leaders, William Scored his second to make it 3-0 after another great run.

As is usual we do not make it easy for ourselves, back stormed Bucks CC and they scored after a free header in our box to make it 3-1. At this point the game was hit by a hail storm and the game became a battle on a very muddy pitch. With eight minutes to go Bucks CC pulled another one back after a great free kick flew in over our keepers head.

On we battled and saw the game out to reach our second cup final of the season. A fantastic achievement for all the boys hard work. Well done lads!!

Back to league action this week against Haddenham ,who are the only side to beat us in the league this eason

11/03/2013 - Senior Team Match Report - 9th March

Finchampstead 0-1 Chalfont Wasps

A pulsating afternoon saw the Wasps revival continue when they ruined Finchampstead’s undefeated home record with a wonder strike from Fred Tripp.

The match was short of on target goal attempts but this did not dampen the entertainment one iota. Both sides were ‘at it’, Wasps needed to compete for the full 90 minutes to earn the right of victory. They did this well, they were creative up top, worked hard in midfield and stood strong in defence, and thus enjoyed the better of the encounter. Things started evenly. The first attempt of any note came in the 15th minute when a Wasps’ header from a corner was deflected just wide. A quick paced match continued as both sides mounted attacks in even measure when they were able to win the midfield tussle. Connor Cumber's run and shot followed shortly afterwards which was pushed away to safety well by the home ‘keeper. Wasps finished the half with a series of corners and attacks and were unlucky not to be in the lead at the interval.

The second period continued in much the same vein as the first half. Then came a moment of magic. Wasps had pressed Finch into clearing a cross, Fred Tripp controlled the clearance on his chest and in the same movement drilled a 30 yard volley past a helpless Finch keeper; 0-1, 61st minute. Frank Turner in the Wasps goal needed a smart save two minutes later to keep his clean sheet. Tripp and Tom Seddon had a further attempt each and Ross Crawford made a superb last ditch tackle in the dying seconds to earn Wasps all three points.
